What a business website needs to bring in enquiries: a checklist
Ten things that decide whether a visitor calls you or closes the tab. Run through them on your own site in 10 minutes.
Most business websites don’t look bad. They just don’t tell the visitor quickly and clearly why they should call you. Run through this checklist on your own site, ideally on your phone.
First impression (the first 5 seconds)
- The main headline says what you do and for whom, without scrolling
- A clear enquiry button or phone number sits right at the top
- The site loads in under 3 seconds on mobile
Trust
- Examples of your work with real photos, not stock
- References with a name and company, ideally with a concrete result
- A real address, company details and a contact person
The path to an enquiry
- The enquiry form has 5 fields at most
- It says when you will reply (for example within 24 hours)
- The phone number can be dialled with one tap on mobile
- It is clear what happens after sending and roughly what it costs
How to score it
Give yourself a point for every item you tick. Fewer than 6? Your website is probably costing you enquiries that would otherwise come in. The most common gaps are prices or at least a price range, references and a clear button at the top.
Want a second opinion? Send me the link through the form at the bottom of the page and I’ll tell you, for free, which items your site is missing and how to fix them.
